Virtualization: The simple clarification for the raised question is, you create a virtual version of something used for common kind of execution. We create a virtual environment for any kind of programs to run on the existing platform as a guest user, but without affecting the host services. The virtual environment can be anything be an Operating system, the Application server or might be a network.

Let’s understand this concept with an example, Suppose you have a basic hard drive and you decide to make a partition of two virtualized hard drives. Practically, it is a single hard drive but digitally distributed into two.

 

The types of virtualization:

 

The foremost types of virtualization and each one has a different effect on the network:

 

1. Application Virtualization: The server stores all the information of the application, you can still run it on your workstation but technically the application is not installed on your workstation, but act like it is.

2. Desktop virtualization: Allow the users’ OS to be remotely stored on a server in the data center, allowing the user to then accesses their desktop virtually, from any location.

3. Storage Virtualization: Grouping the physical storage from multiple storages devices so it acts to look one storage device.

4. Hardware Virtualization: It uses one processor to act as if there are several different processors. The user can run different operating systems on the same hardware, such types of virtualization include Virtual Machine Manager.

5. Administrative Virtualization: In certain groups, you have access to read specific servers, applications files but not allowed to change.

6. Network Virtualization: Virtually managing IPs through routing tables, routers, switches etc.
